I’m generally not a morning person but being a mum means I have to be organised and motivated and basically cracking that whip to get everyone where they need to be of a morning. But I can’t start my day without a tiny bit of ‘me’ time and my morning routine is my little breath of fresh air before chaos reigns again. Regardless whether I’ve used an overnight treatment or just a night moisturiser, my morning skincare routine is pretty standard.
After brushing my teeth, I use Garnier Clean Detox Refreshing Cleansing Gel to wash off whatever I put on my face and neck the night before, working up to a gentle lather then rinsing it off thoroughly with warm water – I can’t handle cold water in the morning. I then use a flannel cloth to vigorously dry my face which doubles as a gentle exfoliation of sorts and helps wake me up.
Next I move onto serum and I’m currently loving my Lancome Visionnaire Advanced Skin Corrector which smells divine and feels just as nice. Then it’s the Eve Lom Eye Cream which I gently smooth and pat under my eyes and out to my wee crows feet. And lastly, a little moisturiser with SPF which is currently Garnier Ultra Lift with SPF 15. I say currently because they’ve recently reformulated this and have added mica which translates on my skin to “oh wow, there’s all your fine and not so fine lines”. It boggles me how they keep adding shiny disco ball ingredients to skincare targeted at women over 35.
A little lip balm, my holy grail Banana Boat Aloe Vera Lip Balm with SPF30 – I seriously buy this in bulk in so I can have one in my handbag, one in my bathroom, one at my vanity, one beside my bed...you get my drift. It really soaks in to keep my lips smooth and hydrated and provides the perfect base for lippy later on. And now my skin is prepped and ready for makeup unless I’m having a home day in which case I’m done and ready to kid wrangle. Total time from sleepyhead to awake and at it = less than 5 minutes.
