Fitness update #1

Wednesday, 9 September 2015

I have to be honest, it hasn't been the best of starts. A few years back hubby and I gave up sugar and any products where sugar is listed as an ingredient and it worked really well. With little to no exercise I managed to lose 5kg over 2 months. Hubby lost close to 12kg.

The first week was hard. It's amazing how grumpy you can get with sugar withdrawl but after that it got easier and I lost about 0.5kg each week. The easiest thing about this version of a 'no-sugar' diet was that I didn't have to watch the amount of what I was eating, only if it contained sugar. And bloody everything processed has sugar in it but being the middle of summer, we were eating BBQ's most nights with heaps of lean meats, salads and fresh summer fruits so it didn't seem like a major upheaval.

I tried it again last week and after a day or two of slip-ups I worked through the sugar withdrawl and thought I was doing well. By the end of the week I jumped on the scales and saw a half kg drop. However... 2 days later that 0.5kg was back and I haven't changed anything. Water weight? Bloating? Big dinner? Big excuses me thinks.

I've come to the realisation that what worked the first time isn't going to be so easy this time. Its almost as though my body knows what I'm trying to do and isn't having any of it. I always knew that exercise had to come into it at some point but I feel so heavy at the moment that I was hoping to lose a kg or 2 before thundering around my family room trying to get my heart rate up.

Sigh. Thank God the house is built on a concrete slab.
