I tend to be
fairly brand loyal. When I find a product that really works for me, I am
compelled to try out the rest of the range that the brand offers. Peter Thomas
Roth is one such brand.
After researching
dark circle treatments and reading heaps of reviews, I worked out that PTR
Power K Rescue Eye Treatment might be the thing for me. The very generous
Rachael at Kit Cosmetics Doncaster (now Mecca Maxima I think) was so lovely and
gave me a HUGE scoop to try as a sample which gave me enough product to try
properly for a full 2 weeks and in that time I saw a remarkable improvement in
my dark circles. After that first successful trial I earmarked a bunch more
products to try and buy within the PTR range and have slowly collected the
following which have become core items in my beauty arsenal.
Starting with Power K Eye Rescue - holy crap I love this stuff because it actually works! I have dark circles primarily caused by haem discolouration (ie leaky capillaries) and thankfully not hereditary pigmentation so the combo of active ingredients in this little pot helps clear away the broken down haemoglobin and fade my dark circles as a result. It is a somewhat opaque white gel-like cream with little grey balls that burst and dissolve away to nothing as you rub the cream in. The active ingredients include Vitamin K in liposomes (known to be important in blood clotting which helps the body reabsorb blood in areas of bruising like my leaky capillaries), Anti-oxidants, Vitamin C, Green Tea, Kojic Acid (a lightening agent), Citrus Bioflavonoids, Arnica (part of the daisy family of plants which helps clear bruising), and Co-enzyme Q-10 in caviar-like beads ie the grey balls. I find I don’t need to use much and depending on how rough I’ve been cleaning around my eyes, sometimes it can sting for a few moments but that dissipates quickly. I haven’t noticed any improvement in my fine lines/wrinkles but then again as far as I can tell that’s what the Co-enzyme Q10 is included for and it’s pretty ineffective when applied topically so no surprise there. I typically use this for 2 weeks as a nightly treatment for my dark circles and then don’t need to reuse until the colour builds again a month or two later. The 15ml jar lasts over a year with regular use and I’m almost through my 2nd pot and will be repurchasing in the near future.
The next product I tried out and subsequently purchased was the Viz-1000 Hydrating Serum. My third pregnancy really saw my skin type shift away from oily-combo and settle at normal with increasing dryness during winter. In the midst of summer right now I tend to use it sporadically but come winter I’ll go back to using it 2-3 times a week again. It’s a clear, thin gel with a very watery consistency which just keeps on spreading until all of a sudden it soaks in and seems to set. One pump is more than enough for my whole face and neck. I use this at night and while I’ve tried it on its own as a solitary treatment, I much prefer it under a rich moisturiser where it supercharges whatever moisturiser I put over it. By morning my skin feels so hydrated, full and plump – it reminds me of what my skin was like 20 years ago. This is also loaded with other plant and marine extracts aimed at reducing inflammation/irritation and calming the skin which feels lovely and soothing when I’ve been too rough with cleaning my skin (hang-up from being so oily for so long – I still forget I don’t need to clean it til it squeaks anymore). Like all other PTR products it’s not cheap but a little goes a long way and it doesn’t take long for it to visibly get to work so it’s worth it for me.
Next up I’ll
be sharing my anti-wrinkle choices for the line.
And by the way
this post is in no way sponsored or paid for. I spent my own hard earned money
for each and every product, trialled them over many months and across seasons,
and all opinions, experiences and anecdotes are completely and wholly mine. In case you were wondering.
